Trees have always had a major significance for mankind and in many cultures they were worshipped as mythical beings with protective powers. Just gaze into magnificent leafy crowns and relax. The green branches extend an airy welcome and provide refreshing shade. Climb those lofty boughs right up to the treetop if you dare, and then enjoy those breathtaking views. Besides being home to many species of plants and animals, trees have many other important functions. They act as protective forests, at the same time providing us all with space for recreation. Woodland also helps to keep the environment clean and generates pure air. One hectare of spruce woodland filters some 30 tons of dust particles every year, one single tree supplies us with up to 1.200 litres of oxygen per hour and absorbs up to 4.2 kg carbon dioxide. And what’s more: 60% of Styrian surface area is woodland - it’s the green heart of Austria!
Each of our 21 hotels has nominated its own domestic tree and offers really amusing forest holiday packages.
On International Tree Day (25th April), we are going to stage a fantastic Forest Weeks Opening party at Herberstein’s Animal World for our guest families including lots of fun events for our youngsters: creative wood workshops featuring natural materials from the woods, a tree dance, a tree quiz and a game course on the subject “woods”. We are looking forward to meeting you there!
